The collection consists of family correspondence, documents, and business records, particularly relating to Henry Chamberlain. Included are genealogies of the Chamberlain, Langdon, Woodward and Wheelock families.The letters in the early years of the collection relate to the migration of the family westward to Ohio, and then to Michigan. Scope and Contents
These papers contain military records (1861-1866) of Captain Charles H. Gorsuch, who commanded Company K, 38th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. The records include clothing and equipment inventories, invoices for ordinance and ordinance stores, and equipment depositions. Also included are correspondence, legal documents and receipts relating to Gorsuch's involvement in farming and in business activities after the war in Ohio and then in Waldron, Hillsdale County, Michigan.
